The city of Genoa, set to host the World Rowing Coastal Championships & Beach Sprint Finals on the San Nazaro Beach from September 6th to 15th, has been honored as the European Capital of Sport for 2024 by ACES Europe, the Federation for the European Capitals and Cities of Sport. This recognition has positioned Genoa as the stage for numerous national and international sporting events, alongside a variety of projects that engage people of all ages and abilities.

Genoa 2024, as the European Capital of Sport, has brought the city into the global sporting spotlight with an extensive program of high-profile national and international competitions. Complementing these events are activities aimed at promoting the culture of sport and its core values of accessibility, integration, social inclusion, and well-being.

Among the most significant international events is the dual World Rowing event: the World Rowing Coastal Championships and the Beach Sprint Finals. From September 6 to 15, Genoa will welcome both enthusiasts and the world’s top athletes. The first weekend will focus on the Endurance World Championships for clubs, while the second will feature the thrilling Beach Sprint Finals, a discipline making its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028. National teams are ready to compete in the waters of San Nazaro Beach.

Throughout 2024, Genoa has been, and will continue to be until December, the stage for over 100 sporting events, covering more than 20 disciplines, including numerous national and international competitions. The entire program has championed the values of inclusion, integration, and well-being, with a special focus on Paralympic events and sustainability. As one of the first cities in Italy to adopt guidelines for sustainable events, Genoa has consistently demonstrated its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its activities.

In addition to sports competitions, Genoa is offering a rich cultural program, including exhibitions, conferences, and talks, highlighting the city’s historical and artistic wealth. This sporting year has also provided an opportunity to engage young people in sports and promote healthier lifestyles, in collaboration with schools and universities.

The Genoa 2024 logo, featuring the city’s iconic Lanterna, has accompanied all initiatives, symbolizing the energy and vitality of sport. Numerous ambassadors, including internationally renowned athletes, have supported the program, inspiring the younger generation and strengthening the connection between sport and culture in the city.
