Genoa will be the stage for the World Rowing Coastal Championships & Beach Sprint Finals from September 6-15. This event marks a milestone for Genoa 2024 European Capital of Sport: the city will host a World Championship in an Olympic discipline for the first time in half a century. Athletes will first participate in the Coastal Rowing Endurance World Championship and then in the exciting Beach Sprint Finals.
“With great pride, today we celebrate the arrival of the Coastal Rowing World Championship in our beautiful city”, says Marco Bucci, Mayor of Genoa. “This international event is a moment of great joy and celebration for the entire Genoese community and for fans of this sport from all over the world. This World Championship is not only an opportunity to showcase the best athletes from every corner of the globe but also to promote the values of friendship, respect, and solidarity that coastal rowing embodies. At a time when the world needs more unity and mutual understanding, sports become a powerful tool for bringing people together”.
The San Nazaro Beach on Corso Italia will serve as the venue for the World Championship. The event dates are from September 6th-15th, with a focus on coastal rowing endurance the first weekend and the Beach Sprint Finals the following weekend. This marks the second consecutive year for Italy after last year’s edition in Barletta, Apulia.
